Last week, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar warned private companies in Karnataka not to discriminate against Kannadigas in employment opportunities. “The government will not allow the rights, dignity, and opportunities of Kannadigas to be disregarded for any reason. The government will take action against any private institution that is deliberately sidelining Kannadigas,” he warned in a post on X.
The Chief Minister’s statement on October 25 was a reaction to recent posts by several social media users, who claimed to have been discriminated against in employment opportunities for being a “Kannadiga” or “Kannada speaking”. One social media user had tagged the Chief Minister, seeking intervention.
