Adilabad district police have busted an inter-State gang that targeted farmers struggling to pay tractor finance instalments and cheated them under the pretext of leasing their tractors.

Police recovered six tractors worth around ₹40 lakh and arrested prime accused Yogesh Patil of Amravati in Maharashtra, along with four local agents, said Adilabad District Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan.

Speaking to the media in Adilabad on Sunday, the SP said the arrested agents were K. Shyam Rao, V. Keshav and Pitambar of Indervelli mandal, and Ambar Rao of Narsapur in Utnoor mandal.

The gang, which also included Sohail Rehan and Asif of Maharashtra, targeted tractor owners in Adilabad district with outstanding finance dues. The accused promised to clear their pending instalments, took the tractors on lease and later transported them illegally to Maharashtra.
