The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on Akshayakalpa Farms and Foods Private Limited in Jubilee Hills for using drinking water to clean floors. The Board has also temporarily disconnected the sewage connection at the premises as part of its drive to curb the wastage and misuse of drinking water.

The action was taken after officials found drinking water being used for floor cleaning at the company’s premises in Journalist Colony, Road No. 70, Jubilee Hills. HMWS&SB said it had intensified inspections across Hyderabad in anticipation of potential water availability challenges during the upcoming summer and was taking measures to conserve drinking water.

Officials have urged residents and commercial establishments to restrict the use of drinking water to essential purposes such as drinking and cooking. They have cautioned against using potable water for floor cleaning, vehicle washing, gardening and construction activities, and advised the public to use treated water supplied from sewage treatment plants (STPs) for such purposes.

The Board warned that inspections would continue across the city and strict action would be taken against establishments found wasting or misusing drinking water. It has also appealed to citizens to report instances of drinking water wastage by sending details, photographs or videos to its WhatsApp number 99499 30003.
