A Grama Palana Officer (GPO) in Mosam village of Mancherial district was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday while he was accepting a bribe of ₹22,000 to facilitate the correction of a name in revenue records and enable the complainant and his brother to claim succession to agricultural land.
The accused officer, D. Srinivas, allegedly demanded the money to submit a report to higher authorities for correcting the complainant’s father’s name in the revenue records. The correction was required for the complainant and his brother to obtain succession to the agricultural land.
The ACB’s Adilabad Range officials caught Srinivas at his office on October 29 while he was accepting the amount. The tainted money was recovered from his possession.
The officer was arrested and was being produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases court in Karimnagar for judicial remand. The case is under investigation.
The ACB has urged the public to report demands for bribes by government officials through its toll-free number, 1064. Complaints can also be made through WhatsApp at 9440446106 and the bureau’s social media platforms. The identities of complainants are kept confidential.
