A fishing boat docked beneath the old Feroke bridge caught fire early on Thursday (October 29, 2026) morning, triggering safety concerns among residents. The incident, which occurred when workers were away from the spot, reportedly originated in the boat’s engine and fuel tank.

According to the initial assessment by rescue squads, the blaze broke out in the engine section before spreading to other parts rapidly. Prompt response from emergency personnel helped avert a major disaster. Two officers waded into the river with ropes, swam to the boat, secured it safely, and assisted teams in pulling the vessel closer to the bank.

Fire and rescue services personnel subsequently pumped water to fully extinguish the flames. A rescue officer said a technical malfunction in the boat’s engine caused the fire. He added that further investigations were on to determine the exact cause of the fire.
