Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Saturday (October 31, 2026) announced a hike in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees and teachers, following a similar increase for Central government employees.

A State government press release said the DA for Central government employees had been increased from 60% to 63% with effect from July 2026. The revised DA would apply to the Tamil Nadu government employees and teachers with effect from the same date.

A total of 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners would benefit from the increase. It would cost the government ₹1,858 crore a year.

“This will help them celebrate Deepavali happily,” the government release said.
