BJP MLC and Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Legislative Council N. Ravikumar on Wednesday said that the BJP-led NDA’s victory in all four Legislative Council constituencies in the State reflects the dissatisfaction of voters with the Congress government’s policies and functioning.
Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi, Mr. Ravikumar said that the victories in two teachers and two graduates constituencies have sent a strong message to the ruling Congress signalling about what is going to come in the 2028 Assembly elections.
He said that though the Congress earlier performed well in the Lok Sabha elections and Assembly bypolls, the latest results indicate discontent among educated voters over the State government’s policies and handling of public issues.
Referring to the BJP’s defeat in all five Lok Sabha constituencies in the Kalyana Karnataka region, Mr. Ravikumar said that the party’s victory in the North-East Teachers Constituency and the NDA’s success in all four Council constituencies in the State have boosted its prospects in the region.
He accused the Congress government of taking decisions against public interest and diverting attention from its failures instead of addressing people’s concerns.
Mr. Ravikumar accused AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Minister Priyank Kharge of targeting the Union government and criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead of addressing issues confronting the State.
Mr. Ravikumar said that the results of Council polls reflect teachers anger over the State government’s decision to neglect the Hindi examination and its move to do away with marks-based assessment for the third language in the SSLC examination.
BJP MLC Shashil G. Namoshi, who retained the North-East Teachers Constituency for a fifth term, thanked voters for reposing faith in him.
He said that he will work to fulfil their expectations and described the results as a warning to the Congress government ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
MLA Avinash Jadhav, the former MLA Dattatreya Patil Revoor and the former MLC Amarnath Patil were present.
