Suresh, Congress MP from Keralam, urged Congress leaders from Mysuru to participate in the ‘Desh Bachao, Vote Bachao’ (Save the Nation, Save the Vote) rally to be spearheaded by party leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on November 1.
Mr. Suresh, who is the observer for Mysuru division, held a meeting with Congress leaders, besides sitting and former legislators from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Hassan, and Mandya districts.
The leaders were urged to participate in the massive protest rally scheduled to be held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1, demanding the scrapping of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls taken up by the Election Commission of India.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Bhavan in Mysuru on Monday, Mr. Suresh claimed that more than 10 lakh people from across the country were expected to gather in New Delhi for the protest.
Demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, he alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were giving Mr. Kumar a free hand to help them win elections through unfair means.
The Congress would continue its agitation until Mr. Kumar resigns, he said, adding that all party leaders would participate in the protest. He further alleged that the BJP was attempting to win elections in every State through vote theft.
