Hitting back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for describing the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally as a “ghuspetiya bachao“ (save infiltrators) event, the Congress on Thursday (November 5, 2026) said Mr. Shah should give up charge of the Home Ministry and return to the post of BJP president if he was unable to discharge his responsibilities.

Pawan Khera, head of the Congress’s media and publicity department, in a post on social media platform X, questioned Mr. Shah’s handling of internal security, citing the continuing violence in Manipur, the Pahalgam terror attack, the 2025 blast near the Red Fort, and the recovery of 300 kg of RDX near the national capital.

“Mota bhai, if the Home Ministry is beyond your control, why are you still clinging to that chair? In seven years, you have not been able to manage the country’s three crore ghuspetiyas,” Mr. Khera said.

Mr. Shah should take charge of the BJP and travel across the country — from Hyderabad to Haryana (Karnal) — with the party’s “mobile circus”, a term the Congress leader used to describe the BJP’s ‘Loktantra bachao, arajakta hatao’ (save democracy, remove anarchy) protests.

“Why are you sinking the country’s ship by holding on to the Home Ministry?” Mr. Khera said, also taking a swipe at BJP president Nitin Nabin with: “Poor Nitin Nabin doesn’t understand anything. Set him free.”

Mr. Khera’s remarks came after Mr. Shah, addressing a rally in Karnal following a BJP march for ‘Loktantra bachao, arajakta hatao’ , accused the Opposition of organising the November 1 rally to protect infiltrators rather than safeguard voters.

The BJP was committed to identifying and removing “infiltrators” from electoral rolls and deporting them from the country, Mr. Shah said, describing the process as “detect, delete and deport”.

The Home Minister also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who leads the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, alleging that Parliament was the country’s supreme forum for democratic debate, but the Opposition leader did not allow it to function.

“You don’t allow Parliament to run, you don’t discuss issues. You have turned creating a ruckus and resorting to boycotts into the Congress’s culture,” Mr. Shah said.
