Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has said that people of the State have understood that the guarantee schemes would be discontinued if the BJP came to power, and hence they would not elect the party to rule in the State.

Speaking to reporters on reaching Hassan on Sunday (November 8, 2026), Mr. Shivakumar said Opposition leaders had been criticising the guarantee schemes. “The schemes are reaching all eligible beneficiaries. The leaders of the BJP and the JD(S) cannot tolerate this,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the Congress implemented the guarantee schemes in view of the price rise that followed the increase in fuel prices. “We are helping families facing difficulties due to the price rise. We are also providing an input subsidy of ₹5,000 to farmers. The subsidy towards free power for irrigation pump sets has gone up to ₹30,000 crore,” he said.

On the recent increase in milk prices, he said the current prices in Karnataka were lower than those prevailing in other States.

“The BJP has not been able to get funds from the Centre for the State. It has not been able to stop the increase in the prices of diesel and petrol. It has also not helped resolve the issue of sugarcane growers. Their demands are genuine, but the BJP has no concern for farmers,” the CM alleged.

Mr. Shivakumar visited the Hasanamba temple along with his wife Usha. The couple also visited the Puradamma temple at Beekanahalli in Hassan taluk.

Infighting within the Congress

Meanwhile, Congress leaders, including former Minister B. Shivaram, raised slogans against district in-charge Minister K.M. Shivalinge Gowda, alleging that he had been ignoring other party leaders in the district.

Mr. Shivaram said the in-charge Minister had not convened even a single meeting with party leaders and defeated candidates to discuss strengthening the party organisation in the district.
