A Sub-Inspector of Police at Banjara Hills Police Station in Hyderabad was caught by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a complainant in return for official favours. In a separate trap on Wednesday (October 28, 2026), a Legal Metrology Inspector from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district and a private petrol pump technician were also caught in a bribery case.

The ACB registered a case of criminal misconduct against Sub-Inspector Kottoor Vijay, who initially demanded ₹10 lakh from the complainant before reducing the amount to ₹1 lakh. The bribe was sought in return for not arresting the complainant in connection with two cases referred by a court, issuing notices under Section 41-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure and accepting replies to the notices. Vijay had also allegedly promised to ensure that no fresh cases were registered against the complainant in connection with the matter.

He was being produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand. The case is under investigation.

Venkateswarlu allegedly demanded and accepted ₹20,000 from a complainant through Ravinder as a reward for having already issued a verification certificate and for handing over the daily sales register of the complainant’s petrol bunk.

According to the ACB, Ravinder accepted the amount at L.B. Nagar in Hyderabad on Venkateswarlu’s instructions. Of the total, ₹15,000 was intended for the inspector and ₹5,000 for Ravinder. The tainted amount was recovered from Ravinder at his instance.

Both men were being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand. The investigation is continuing.

Phone numbers to lodge complaints with Telangana ACB

The ACB withheld the complainants’ details for security reasons and urged the public to report demands for bribes by government officials through its toll-free number, 1064. Complaints can also be sent through WhatsApp at 9440446106 and the bureau’s social media platforms.
