Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday took exception to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s claim that the BJP was poised to come to power in Telangana, saying the party’s electoral prospects in the State were being exaggerated.

The MP from Bhuvanagiri said Mr. Shah appeared to be ill-informed about Telangana’s political landscape and advised the BJP leadership to give up its aspirations of capturing power in the State.

He alleged that the BJP’s success in the previous Lok Sabha elections was largely due to the transfer of votes from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which had sought to prevent the Congress from coming to power at the Centre.

Citing the electoral results in Gajwel, Siddipet and Sircilla, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy questioned how the BJP, which had failed to win these Assembly segments in the 2023 elections, managed to secure leads in the same constituencies during the parliamentary elections held barely six months later.

Instead of making ambitious electoral claims, the Union Home Minister should demonstrate political maturity and focus on Telangana’s development, he said.
