Sir, – I completely agree with your correspondent Gordon Ryan (“Garda vetting and child safeguarding can involve multiple processes”, Letters. October 26th) with regard to Garda vetting. Surely if all is in order in every way, a person should be allowed to participate in similar events.

I passed the vetting system some years ago for helping in Church ministry. Soon after, I volunteered to help with serving juice and biscuits to children after Mass with their parents present.

However, I was not allowed to do this without going through the Garda vetting again. The children had to do without me, as I considered the requirement ridiculous. I’m sure I wasn’t missed. – Yours, etc,
