David Nunan

A post-mortem examination confirmed David Nunan had died from gunshot wounds

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information into the murder of 25-year-old David Nunan, whose body was found in Co Clare more than 21 years ago.

Mr Nunan was discovered by a farmer tending to cattle near a laneway in the Fairyhill area of Parteen on 28 October 2005.

A post-mortem examination confirmed he had died from gunshot wounds, and a murder investigation was launched at Mayorstone Garda Station.

On the night of his death, Mr Nunan had been playing video games with a friend at his home in O'Malley Park, Limerick.

At around 2am, he received a phone call and, after finishing the call, told his friend he was going for a spin in a car.

Gardaí believe a wine-coloured Toyota Carina may have collected him from his home and travelled from Southill to Moyross, before heading towards Parteen, where the murder took place.

An open and active investigation has continued over the past 21 years.

Seventeen people have been arrested in connection with the murder, while searches have been carried out at a number of addresses across Limerick.

Almost 450 statements have been taken and numerous exhibits retained as part of the investigation.

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who saw or met David Nunan, or had any dealings with him in the days leading up to his death, to come forward.

They are also seeking information about the driver of the wine-coloured Toyota Carina, and anyone else who may have been travelling in the car.

Investigators say the passage of time may mean that people who were previously unable to come forward are now in a position to speak to gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mayorstone Garda Station on 061 456 980, Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
