Rank-and-file gardaí say they are so dissatisfied with their working conditions that they are prepared to commence a work-to-rule for the remaining events of the EU presidency.
The Garda Representative Association (GRA) has published the results of a survey of its members, which it says shows that over 90% of the gardaí who responded are prepared to take action because of their dissatisfaction.
Forty five percent of their members, over 4,000 gardaí, responded to two questions about their preparedness to take part in a work-to-rule, and to do so during the EU presidency.
4,182 gardaí, or 94.2% of those who responded, said they were prepared to take industrial action, while 3,977, or 93.6%, said they would do so during the EU presidency.
The GRA has accused the Garda Commissioner and Garda management of breaching the Working Time Agreement and the European Working Time Directive.
GRA General Secretary Ronan Slevin said the survey shows that rank-and-file gardaí "have had enough and voiced their willingness to resist these breaches and show the Commissioner and senior Garda management that they have had enough".
