Carrie Mullane (Noonan) has not been seen since arriving in Enniskillen on 10 October

PSNI detectives investigating the disappearance of Carrie Mullane (Noonan) have launched a murder investigation and arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

39-year-old Ms Mullane, from Limerick, is known to have travelled to Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh on 10 October.

Since then, there have been no confirmed sightings of her, nor has she been in touch with her family or friends.

Detective Superintendent Richard Thornton from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch, said it is "extremely out of character" for Ms Mullane to not contact her loved ones, which has led to grave concerns for her safety.

"Family and friends of Carrie tell us that she is usually in almost daily contact with them and not hearing from her has caused them to fear something may have happened to her after she reached Northern Ireland," Mr Thornton said.

Ms Mullane arrived in Enniskillen by bus on Saturday 10 October, travelling with a man known to her, and from the bus depot on Wellington Road she and her companion then took a taxi at around to an address in Trasna Park.

This is the last confirmed sighting of Ms Mullane. From that point on, her movements are unknown.

"It has been suggested that she may have travelled to the Derry/Londonderry area the following day, 11 October, however at this point we been unable to find any evidence to verify this," Mr Thornton said.

Concern for Ms Mullane's wellbeing was reported to the PSNI by An Garda Síochána on 29 October. She was immediately classified as a 'high risk' missing person and both the PSNI and An Garda Síochána carried out extensive enquiries to try to establish her whereabouts.

They included CCTV examination, house to house, electronics analysis and interviewing potential witnesses, to try to locate Ms Mullane and establish her welfare.

Police said the enquiries have not yet established Carrie's whereabouts and have led them to have serious concern that she may have been the victim of a violent crime and may have been murdered sometime after her arrival in Northern Ireland.

They said, on that basis, a 35-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

"We know that this news will be devastating for Carrie's loved ones and we have sent two of our Family Liaison Officers to Limerick to meet with them and to explain what PSNI enquiries have led us to this point, and perhaps most importantly to provide them with support as they navigate what are likely to be some very difficult days ahead," Mr Thornton said.

"Here in Enniskillen our investigation is very much ongoing and we are continuing with our efforts to try to locate Carrie. We are appealing to the community for their help in this," he added.

Anyone who may have seen Ms Mullane on the weekend of 10 October or at any time since or anyone with any information around the circumstances of her disappearance is being urged to get in touch with the PSNI by calling 101 and asking for the Major Investigation Team on extension 40374 or by quoting reference number 272 29/10/26.

Ms Mullane is described as being 1.67m (5'6"), of slim build with shoulder-length brown hair.

When last seen at the bus depot in Enniskillen, she was wearing a blue waist-length jacket, light blue jeans, white trainers and was carrying a pink shoulder bag and an orange coloured shopping bag.
