Sir, - My wife and I are grateful to your correspondents for highlighting disparities in the treatment of social and private occupational pensioners (Letters, October 21st, 22nd).

We have written to our constituency TDs, two of whom served as ministers, regarding the continuation of the so-called “temporary” levies on our pension to this day. We have also petitioned ministers of the successive governments, each of whom declined to remedy this in any way.

Most of the above are now State pensioners on fully restored post-levy entitlements, enjoying a very comfortable retirement! We await the outcome of representations to the current Ministers, more in hope than expectation of the equal treatment and justice that this Republic should provide.

We are not just forgotten, we are clearly ignored, while the big battalions carve up the national cake, leaving the scraps to the common people. – Yours, etc,

WILLIAM KELLY,

Dublin.
