A man has been charged in connection with an incident in which a man died and another man was injured following a stabbing at an International Protection Accommodation Services centre in Co Kerry.
Emergency services were called to the scene at Ballymullen Barracks in Tralee yesterday shortly after 5.20am.
A man was discovered with serious injuries. It is understood that he had been stabbed.
He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Another man, who is in his 40s, was injured and taken to University Hospital Kerry.
Gardaí said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A man in his late 40s was arrested at the scene and was held for questioning at a garda station in Co Kerry under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
He has subsequently been charged and will appear before a special sitting of Killarney District Court at 6.30pm this evening.
In 2024, the Ballymullen Barracks in Tralee was designated to house 50 single male international protection applicants.
In a statement yesterday, the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration said it was responding to a "critical incident" at the centre, but could not comment further as a garda investigation is under way.
