Independent councillor Alan Coleman, who is based in Innishannon, said the deceased were well known and come from a popular family in the area.

"It's very sad and very tragic, the people, the area are really shocked to hear this news this morning when it broke.

"People in the parish are gathering around in groups. They just can't believe such a thing could happen in our own parish here.

"There's a lot of the family living in the area here. And they're very involved in every activity in the local area. So there's a lot of people impacted by this.

"I’ve no doubt the parish, the community will rally around them. But it is very numbing," he said.
