Christy Moore has announced a special concert with Irish folk group Beoga at Dublin's Vicar Street in a show of solidarity with the band.
The singer has invited Beoga to join him as special guests at the venue on Monday 7 December, following their decision to withdraw from Ed Sheeran’s North American tour last month.
Announcing the concert, promoters said: "In solidarity with Beoga, Christy has invited them to appear as special guests in Vicar Street on 7th December."
The announcement follows a high-profile controversy in September when Beoga withdrew from Sheeran’s Loop tour in support of US rapper Macklemore, who had been removed from the line-up following comments he made about Gaza during a concert in New Jersey.
Beoga, who have collaborated with Sheeran for more than a decade, said at the time that they could not continue performing at venues where artists speaking out in support of Palestine were being silenced.
Sheeran subsequently said Macklemore’s removal had been a decision taken by promoters, rather than himself.
Speaking to RTÉ Radio 1 following their departure, Beoga singer and fiddle player Niamh Dunne said the group remained friends with Sheeran.
"We’re working musicians who made a principled decision, and the financial and professional stakes are very real in all of that," she said.
Moore, who has long been associated with political and social causes, is currently preparing for a series of sold-out concerts at Vicar Street throughout November.
The newly announced December concert will be a standing show.
Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 28 October at 9am through Ticketmaster.ie.
