Sir, – Mark O’Connell writes of his addiction to buying books “at a rate that far outstrips my capacity to read them” (“Every year, as I get ready to file a tax return, I experience a strange sort of reckoning”, Opinion, October 26th).
Having overcome the same problem, may I recommend the services of his local library. It’s free, and if you don’t read the book, they’ll even take it back and mind it for you until such time as you can get around to it. Best of all, no more fattening the purse of the techie wannabe overlords of whom he writes so well. – Yours, etc,
JIM MANNIX,
Cork.
