Sir, – Could the Government not have been more creative and organised for the 50 European leaders to come to Co Clare rather than Dublin for the proposed European meeting on November 12th?

Shannon Airport is available for all to fly into.

Excellent facilities are available at Dromoland Castle, a few miles down the road from Shannon Airport.

In comparison to hosting the event at the Dublin Convention Centre there would be minimum obstruction to the working day for the general public. There would be no traffic issues and security would be much easier to manage.

The icing on the cake for such an event would be the showcasing of the beauty of the west of Ireland.

A win, win, win for Ireland and for the tenure of the European presidency. – Yours, etc,

Geraldine Gregan,

Co. Clare
