Around 2,000 people remain stranded in the city of Oleshky, facing severe shortages of food and medicine. The Russian-occupied town has been devastated by fighting and flooding since Moscow's invasion in 2022.

The localised ceasefire, secured by US First Lady Melania Trump, will allow evacuations and aid deliveries to Oleshky.

The agreement would “temporarily stop all military action in Oleshky to allow for humanitarian aid to enter and to prepare a civilian evacuation,” the White House said.
