Locals report whale carcass at Cottesloe beach

By

A whale carcass has reportedly washed up just south of Cottesloe Beach this morning.

The sighting was reported to Fisheries at 6.15am, with a juvenile whale carcass washing ashore at Dutch Inn Beach in South Cottesloe.

It comes just three weeks after a 31-tonne humpback whale carcass caused havoc at City Beach after it washed ashore and attracted multiple great white sharks to the beach.

It took several days and $180,000 to remove the carcass, which was eventually transported to a tip. Surrounding beaches in the area remained closed for more than a week due to the shark risk, and then the high level of bacteria detected in the water after the whale was removed.
