15/20Tintino
Bar snacks$$
A bottleshop for snacks, steak frites and fun stuff on the pour.
Tintino is as perfectly pitched for walk-ins just looking for a snack and a drink as it is for a proper night out. The lights are low, the bar and tables are full, the shelves are stacked with bottles to drink in or take away. Walls are covered in art that wouldn’t be out of place in Juxtapoz Magazine, oysters come with umeboshi mignonette and friendly staff recommend a splash of bone-dry Reichsrat von Buhl Riesling to really make the bivalves sing.
From the open kitchen, expect plenty of handheld snacks, such as octopus gildas, and robustly battered prawns to swipe through curry-leaf-topped labne. Every Monday is “Burgers and Beaujolais” night, Tuesday is for small plates, while Wednesday to Saturday is the time to settle in for radiant bluefin tuna crudo simply boosted with ponzu and olive oil; cavatelli with a duck and porcini ragu to get lost in (we’re going to need a bigger glass of nebbiolo); and sweetly fatty pork cutlet punctured by green chilli sambal. Old Kingston meets new Kingston in the best of ways.
Go to know: For a wine bar, it does a dangerously good martini.
