Are we in the heavens, dining with deities on nectar and ambrosia? It feels that way, sipping on Greek wine beneath a sweeping glass oculus open to the sky, a lush bougainvillaea casting dappled shade on pale travertine and stone.
Everything is abundant and sublime – much like chef Özge Kalvo’s food. Grilled sardines doused in olive oil, lemony rice and summer purslane, cooked down until tender, say, or lamb leg skewers charred over fire, glistening in their own juices. Both pair well with the village salad, true to tradition with crunchy, thick-cut vegetables at their peak and a generous slab of feta.
There are contemporary takes too, like the memorable kokoretsi – sweetbreads, liver and belly wrapped in shattering filo with a drizzle of sharp mustard. Take your pick from more than 40 dishes, alongside bright, breezy cocktails by drinks master Matt Whiley – fresh, herbaceous and finely tuned to the food. The glamorous bounty here is yours for the taking.
Good to know: The wine list runs deep with Greek producers, but there’s also a top selection of Australian, French and “party” bottles.
