A beloved institution that’s big on flavour.
At Nomad you can find yourself pondering the big questions, such as to mix or not to mix? Put that spoon down and scoop up the creamy cannellini bean hummus with puffy blistered flatbread bristling with wattleseed za’atar, snaring gently spiced lamb, chilli oil and sumac-spiked white onion in one fell swoop. It makes a fine start to a procession of dishes suffused with fire and smoke and big flavours. Another mezze-style starter? Nab the cauli blossom – crisp-fried florets smothered in truffle honey and pecorino.
From the wood-fired oven come hefty cuts such as dry-aged pork cutlet and rib-eye and the more dainty likes of blue cod en papillote, the pearly flakes sharing the parchment paper with walnut, green olive and sea succulent.
The light, sleek industrial space hosts animated groups making the most of the generous share plates, while the staff are equally bright and breezy. If they nudge you towards dessert, make it the olive oil ice-cream sandwich laden with honey, and halva and pistachio crumble. This one’s not for sharing.
Best for: Getting a gang together for a shared feast.
