Iowans voted for Bob Sands as their new governor. The Democrat stands for a return to Agrarian populism that has a long tradition in US history.

While running for governor of Iowa, Rob Sand, a Democrat and the state’s auditor, reprised a campaign slogan used by Iowa Democrats of an earlier era: “It’s time to rotate the crops.” Voters agreed. Iowans elected Mr Sand to be their first Democratic governor in 15 years. Democrats won a Senate seat and flipped three congressional districts in the Hawkeye State, too. In Kansas, Adam Hamilton, the pastor of America’s largest United Methodist church, was the first Democratic senator elected by the state since 1932.
